What is Source?

Summer 2010:  a vision.

It was like watching a movie, bronchi like Lord of the Rings, and the first bit was slowed down. Out of the darkness came a rider in silver armour on a white horse coming in flying leaps toward me, I was overwhelmed by a sense of power that went in a wave right through my core, and realised it was Jesus, he was dressed in silver armour and had a huge sword with a giant ruby set in the pommel. His helmet was above his glowing white hair and it had the words victor and triumphant inscribed on it, with intricate designs etched all over the metal. I saw his sword also had many words of truth etched on it, and he took his sword to a field of ripe wheat and began to harvest it all, bending from the horse as it galloped down the side of the hill. I asked if there was more to see and I looked up at the moon which began to wax from a quarter full to completely full.

In context, this came at the end of a meeting I had to discuss church planting among the spiritual seeker community. The moon is a symbol of the church as a body that reflects the light of the Son, and the desire of my heart is to partner with heaven to see His bride come to shining fullness…

I had asked for a name for this ministry, and felt it on the tip of my tongue and spirit as I tried to search it out, for a while I was going ‘oh… o… I know it has an ‘o’ in it!’ But Jesus is the source of life and everything was created by and through Him, He is the centre (John 1). And so it fitted perfectly.

So I will be using this blog to post my progress in this journey.

What is Source?

The aims of Source as a missional discipleship ministry are:

  • to fill an existing gap in what is currently available for spiritual seekers to connect to the Trinity
  • to help remove barriers between seekers and this connection though experiential encounters and practical teaching
  • to provide another set of options for Christians trying to follow up those who come to faith or come near to faith
  • to redeem the spiritual and creative forms of worship that are less readily available today
  • to bring in the spiritual seeker Bride
  • to use language that is easily accessible and explain jargon clearly
  • to release a fresh expression of church in church planting

‘Listening to the Spirit of Jesus’ is a course produced by the Source ministry which is planned to help achieve these aims.

Not all will use this course to church plant but the opportunity to develop fresh styles of meeting and community is encouraged.

It was like watching a movie, order like Lord of the Rings, cost
and the first bit was slowed down. ‘Listening to the Spirit of Jesus’ is both a harvesting tool and a gathering in tool – both bait and net, and allows the cleansing and equipping process to begin.

The course is a combination of different tools that release the kingdom in a powerful package of radical love. We don’t realise how odd church appears to those who have no understanding of our traditions and practices. No longer should we expect all to fit through our Sunday service hurdles, to behave and believe before they belong, rather we want to build relational times with ourselves and the One who will release their destiny.
