Who are we?
Ben and Heather Thorp are a Forge International trained couple from Whiteinch Church of Scotland . Heather is currently pioneering a project called Source, endocrinologist creating a fresh expression of church for spiritual seekers. We follow mission with a variety of creative discipleship options; incorporating meditation, medicine spiritual exercises, journalling, creativity, soaking music and fellowship.

Why life`boat?
The image of a boat has come up a number of times in words and pictures that people have had for us. We felt it encompassed many different aspects of what we are trying to achieve. The boat can symbolise the spiritual journey that we are all on, both individually and corporately. Life is what we want to bring – life in all it’s fullness (John 10:10). And together, lifeboat speaks of a rescue mission – a sense of purpose and of salvation.
Ben’s quotes:
“One of the greatest inhibitors of keeping a church on mission is the erroneous spoken and unspoken expectations people have for church leaders and their families. In a missional church, the lead pastor is the architect who builds the ship more than he is the captain who pilots it, the cook who washes dishes in the galley, or the activities director who coordinates the shuffleboard reservations. The role of architect is incredibly important because most pastors have been trained how to work on a ship instead of how to build a ship” ( “Confessions of a Reformission Rev.” , Mark Driscoll, 34).
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea. ” (Antoine de Saint-Exupery )

What are you looking for in a team?
Ultimately, we’re looking for people who feel a strong sense of calling, to the work that we’re doing.  After calling, the next most important criteria is character – the New Testament passages on choosing leaders emphasise character specifically. We also believe in looking at fulfilling roles within the “5-fold ministries” – teachers, pastors, evangelists, prophets and apostles. If that hasn’t scared you away, please do contact us to find out more. Internships are available, as are short term placements of 3 months if you want to test the water!

I have other questions!
Please don’t hesitate to drop us a mail if you have more questions. The adventure just gets better!
